Diversity of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and its Source Plant Species: The Case of Jello-Muktar Forest, Eastern Ethiopia

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the diversity of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and source plant species in Jello-Muktar Forest. Data were collected and analyzed from 64 and 320 circular main plots of 400 m 2 and sub-plots of 1 m 2 areas, respectively. Information on the local names and use of different plant species as NTFPs was obtained from key informants. A total of 97 plant species belonging to 32 families were recorded in the forest, of which 74.2% were identified to offer NTFPs of one type or another. A total of 9 different types of NTFPs were recorded from the forest. Medicinal plants are highest both in terms of number of species and its density. The diversity, density and relative abundance of NTFPs’ bearing plants varied depending on the type of NTFP under consideration. Keywords : Diversity; Forest; NTFPs; Plant species, Jello-Muktar
