Abstract
Sea ice in Antarctica has been recorded at its lowest winter maximum level since satellite observationsbegan in 1979, but scientists aren't yet sure what is driving the change.Scientists from the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Co-operate Research Centre say the levels were at arecord high just three years ago.The variability of sea ice and the challenges it presents for commercial and research shipping in the regionare being examined by a meeting of international experts in Hobart today.
