Abstract

One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) declared by United Nations is to promote gender equality and empower women. The purpose was to eliminate gender disparity in education, employment (non-agricultural sector) and politics. The present paper explores the issue of gender equality relating to the need, gender gap and provides an insight to the perception towards gender equality with regards to employment of women in India. The study shows there is still an existence of social stereotyping of genders, however the attitude of the youth particularly the males towards gender equality is positively changing although very slowly. This gradual shift in attitude is due to global exposure, accessibility of social media and positive discrimination. Key words: Women, Gender Equality, India, Women Empowerment
