While a significantly amount of research related to binaural audio is focused on the Head-Related Transfer Function, an equally important consideration for headphone reproduction is the Headphone Transfer Function (HpTF). This includes the effect of the headphones and their interactions with the outer and middle ear. An overview of research being conducted by the author on the estimation of the Headphone Transfer Function (HpTF) and the generation of inverse filters to minimize its effect as part of a binaural audio playback system will be discussed.
