Abstract

The World Commission on Environment and Development reminds us that we are failing in the management of our environment. The numbers of starving and illiterate people in the world are increasing as are the numbers without potable water or sewage disposal, adequate housing or sufficient means of keeping warm. The gap between the rich and the poor nations is increasing and there seems little prospect of this trend reversing.
