Abstract
The work presents the results of studying the use of public transport for the riding purposes in selected transport surveys. The planners have to forecast the number of public transport users during a day, week, months in the year, location and direction, jurney, lenght, speed and time, which is important in the estimate of the public transport proposal. The estimated passenger traffic on the observed public transport lines is of great importance in the decision-making, in order to attract as many users of public transport as possible. The characteristics of public transport users are presented through incomes, ownership of passenger cars, gender, age and profession. The work also presents the difference between captive passengers of public transport and choice riders. As coclusion the work gives the overview of the types of people who use public transport and reasons for that, as well as special interest regarding social or political reasons.
