Abstract
This paper provides a precise and clear overview of the main scientific views on conflicts and methods for their non-violent resolution. Work begins by defining communication and social skills and their importance in the conflict resolution process. Communication and communication skills are the main fuel that powers the conflict resolution process. In the paper, we have explained what constitutes a conflict, what are the main types of conflict and what are the main sources that trigger it. Conflict most often in humans invokes negative associations, however, a conflict can be a driving force for personal growth and learning of an individual. Full understanding of the conflict is essential for a good conflict resolution process and potential prevention of conflicts. In the focus of nonviolent conflict resolution, the main goals are to find a solution for conflict and to meet the needs and interests of both sides in conflict. In this paper we have concisely discussed the main methods of solving conflicts in the profession of social work: negotiation and mediation. At the end of the paper, we also mentioned examples of good practices in the form of programs and educations organized by various associations and non-governmental organizations in the Republic of Croatia with a view to constructive conflict resolution between children.
