Abstract

One randomized, controlled trial (HPTN 052) and several observational studies have demonstrated the potential for antiretroviral therapy (ART) to decrease the risk for onward HIV transmission. These findings have influenced WHO guidelines on management of serodiscordant couples and have spurred ART scale-up.
