Abstract

Georges Peter, M.D., FAAP, was recently appointed by Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala to chair the Centers for Disease Control9s National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC). NVAC was established to advise and make recommendations to the director of the National Vaccine Program on matters related to program responsibilities. We hope to fulfill our responsibility to foster optimal prevention of infectious diseases through vaccines, said Dr. Peter, who is serving the first year of his four-year term as NVAC chair. We also want to optimize the safe use of those vaccines. The committee9s functions are to:
