Clinical treatment of aneurysm of distal part of posterior inferior cerebellar artery

Objective To study the clinical features and surgical treatment of aneurysms of distal part of posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA).Methods The clinical features and treatment of sixteen cases with aneurysms of distal part of PICA within last 3 years were studied retrospectively.Six patients underwent clipping of aneurysm through the middle posterior approach,four underwent clipping through suboccipital lateral approach,and the other underwent endovascular embolization.Results The postoperative course of fifteen patients was uneventful and one patient dead from the respiratory and circulatory complications.Fifteen patients were discharged without neurological deficits and remained well in follow - up.Conclusions As for a given patient with aneurysms of distal part of PICA,whether surgical or endovascular treatment should be selected depending on the attitude of the neurosurgeon and the patient,especially the clinical condition of the patient and morphology of the artery and aneurysm.
