Abstract

A course in introductory acoustics which stresses the basic aspects of sound generation and propagation is described. The topics include the properties of sound waves as they are evident in the voice, musical instruments, and noise sources. The factors which influence the distribution of sound and perception are included in the course. Various means of recording and reproducing sound are included. The course serves a general audience which includes music and speech pathology students for whom the course is required.
