Abstract

In this study, some of the physical properties of heartwood and sapwood of Eucalyptus grandis grown in Karabucak, Turkey were determined. The physical properties determined were air-dried density, oven-dried density, basic density, shrinkage, swelling, fiber saturation point, and maximum moisture content. According to the test results, the physical properties of the heartwood samples differed from those of the sapwood samples due to the presence of high proportion of juvenile wood in the heartwood. It can be said that the shrinkage and swelling percentages were better for heartwood than sapwood. Air-dried density, oven-dried density, and basic density of sapwood were higher than those of heartwood.
