Abstract
Data on embankment dam failures in the State of Colorado were analyzed. The analyses included 1,900 dams and covered a time period from 1799 to 1985. The three basic categories of data analyses were: relationship of failure with time; embankment height; and cause of failure. Certain facts and trends in embankment dam failures were identified as a result of these analyses.
