Abstract

Yonakunijima in Okinawa prefecture is a small island near Formosa, with 4608 inhabitants. Census in 1934 numbered there 15 lepers. In 1937, the author visited all the lepers' hauses and saw that 6 of them had already died, while 26 patients were newly found.Totally there are 35 patients among 4608 inhabitants, namely 76.1 lepers pro 10 thousand, and 2.3 times that of 1934.These all 35 lepers have recently been admitted in the Miyako leprosarium.(Author's abstract.)
