Abstract
Applied research on a variety of highway problems is carried out under the National Cooperative Highway Research Program. This program has been successful in producing results used by practitioners. Major reasons for the program's success are its use of expert advisory panels and its close relationship with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. This paper describes the program, some current activities, and recent accomplishments.
