Tour of Tasmania’s pasture trial sites - matching pasture variety with landscape and climate constraints

The Tasmanian Institute of Agricultures (TIA) Herbage Development Program (HDP) has been breeding new pasture cultivars, running species/cultivar evaluation and demonstration sites across Tasmania since the early 1990s. The overall objective of the program has been to identify, evaluate and develop a range of new perennial grass, annual and perennial legume, and browse plant species across a range of climatic and management conditions. This has been in response to the need for better adapted and more persistent species/cultivars for the low to medium (<700mm) rainfall regions of Tasmania.
