Abstract

A procedure for measuring total sediment discharge using point-source suspended-sediment data was developed. The proposed procedure, Total Sediment Discharge (TSD), was tested with field data from Goodwin Creek, Mississippi. The TSD procedure provides sediment discharge measurements that are similar in magnitude to depth-integrated sediment discharge measurements. Advantages of the TSD procedure include automatic sampling, greater control in obtaining suspended-sediment samples, and the collection of near continuous measurements. Also, the use of point-source suspended-sediment samples requires less time in the field and lower sediment sampling costs.
