Abstract
The incidence of development on Baja California's coastal zone has produced an excessive demand on coastal resources with degradation of the environment and conflicts in land use practices. A classification system for environmental units is presented as a basic framework for land capability analysis and coastal land use planning, and a case study of the application of this system to an analysis of the northwestern coast of Baja California is outlined.
