The object of the present paper is to gain a more detailed understanding of the various cognitive processes involved in product design, such as those involved in a customer's emotional experiences related to product use, the decision-making processes involved in buying a product, and a designer's awareness of the production phase of the product. A cognitive neuroscience approach is useful for exploring the nature of these cognitive processes. Here, the author summarizes the current understanding of the fundamentals of cognitive neuroscience associated with design and discusses the possibilities of using this approach to design.
