Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is regarded as next generation combustion method in terms of high thermal efficiency and low emissions. It is difficult to control autoignition timing and combustion duration since they are controlled primarily by chemical kinetics of the air-fuel mixture. In this study, it was investigated the control factor of autoignition timing and combustion duration of natural gas / air pre-mixture by using elementary reactions. And, it was clarified the effect of n-butane on autoignition and combustion of methane / n-butane pre-mixture.
