Selection and operation of manure application equipment must consider environmental issues along with materials handling and economic factors. Land application of livestock manure faces growing scrutiny because of potential surface and groundwater contamination and odor nuisances. Producers must consider features of a manure application system that enhance their ability to use manure's nutrients, and provide ways to minimize nuisances experienced by neighbors during manure application.
