Abstract

The aim of this investigation is to develop micro air vehicle with flapping airfoils. The lifting force of flapping airfoils depend on a square of its frequency. Insects therefore have light and stiffness airfoils. The airfoil made with paper was suitable for this purpose. The stiffness of the airfoil was improved by using the rib on the airfoil. The lifting force of the flapping airfoils was 0.68 times of the weight of a dragonfly. This result showed that the present flapping machine was useful for the development of MAV imitating insect flight.
