Abstract

Abstract This work explores the electrochemical and corrosion behavior of several coatings applied on alloy C450 for corrosion, wear and antifouling applications. Most of the tests were performed in aerated 5% NaCl solution, pH 4 at 50°C. The monitoring of the corrosion potential and galvanic corrosion current of coated and non-coated specimens determined which coatings will provide corrosion protection to the substrate and polarization resistance measurements monitored the evolution of the coating corrosion behavior as a function of the immersion time. The electrochemical results correlated well with results from the exposure of coated coupons salt fog (ASTM B117).
