Abstract

During July and August of 1988, approximately 843,000 cm of sand was placed along a 2.3-km stretch of beach in Boca Raton, Florida. Post-cosntruction monitoring of the beach nourishment project included environmental monitoring of reefs and surveys of the restored beach to evaluate project performance. The monitoring was conducted in response to permit requiremetns from the Florida Department of Natural Resources and Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. Environmental monitoring of the natural reefs before, during and after beach nourishment project consturction indicated no adverse effect due to nourishment of the beach. An artificial reef was consutructed as mitigation for burial of nearshore rock outcrops by the beach nourishment project.
