Abstract

Hoganas ASC Iron powder compacts were prepared using Acrowax Nopcowax and zinc Stearate as the lubricant at various compaction pressures, lubricant contents, and heating rate keeping sintering temperature and sintering time constant to study the percentage reduction in volume and transfer rupture strength. It was observed that percentage reduction in volume was increased with the increase in lubricant content and initial heating rate and decrease in compaction pressure. It was true for all the lubricants. Transfer rupture strength was increased with the increase in compaction pressure for the fixed value of lubricant contents and heating rate, transfer rupture strength is inversely proportional to the heating rate and lubricant contents irrespective of the lubricant. Under all - of the conditions Zinc Stearate gave the best results.
