Abstract
Water content measurements by soil moisture cells in soil column were made during redistribution after a soil column has been saturated. The upward movement of water was found to be ineffective under an average air temperature of 15°C and the saturated soil moisture condition in sand. The daily average evaporation was measured as 0.63 mm/day. Maximum variation in the soil moisture was observed in the top 200 mm while little or no change was noticed below 200 mm. Two sets of equations were developed for measuring soil moisture in the soil. The first set was time dependent for measuring soil moisture at the soil surface and the second set was both time and soil depth dependent for measuring soil moisture below the soil surface.
