Abstract

This papers offers using of artificial intelligence (AI) technique to control the parameters of a three area power system having a three non-reheating thermal power units. The dynamic output of power system has been analyzed for step load disturbance. Proportional integral (PI) and proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers are used to control the various parameters of multi area power system. Due to high peak overshoot and settling time, conventional PI and PID controllers are not preferred for large power system. The main motivation of this paper is to control the output frequency response with minimum peak overshoot and settling time. The output frequency response with fuzzy logic based controller indicates that fuzzy tuned proportional integral derivative (FTPID) controller is very much better than Ziegler-Nichols tuned PI and PID controllers.
