Abstract
This chapter covers best-practice project management, project team, and risk management processes and covers the specifics of the define, design, and refine project governance phases. Project management involves the planning, organization, and control of activities to deliver business benefits. Fundamental to the success of a project is the ease of interaction between project resources and between those resources and the day-to-day business. A good project plan is both realistic and achievable —that is, realistic in terms of what the project needs to deliver and achievable in terms of the resources available. Milestone plans set out the signposts of the project journey. This includes early equipment management (EEM) stage gates, each of which has defined completion criteria to confirm that the desired outcome has been achieved before progressing to the next step. The popular Gantt bar chart format can then be used to communicate the sequence of tasks and project timings.
