Abstract

This pilot-study screens sexual health, activity and dysfunction and need for medical consultation in colorectal patients both sex via ESSM-Screeners (male, female version) by the ESSM/ISSM. They are considered underestimated symptoms in colorectal diseases. The results should show the relevance for integration of sexual-medicine in diagnostic and treatment of colorectal diseases at the university outpatient-clinic at Medical University Vienna. The first time these screener were used to evaluate sexual health, activity and dysfunction in colorectal patients, too. Sexual activity and the degree of satisfaction within the last 6 months before consultation were evaluated as well as the 7 main sexual dysfunctions using the scale “no problem at all, rarely, sometimes, often, always” and the need for consultation. They were distributed amongst the patients in colorectal university outpatient-clinic Vienna, filled out while waiting, handed over to the colorectal-surgeon at the beginning of the consultation. From July 2014 to March 2015 104 colorectal patients participated voluntarily (87 screeners filled out properly; 44 male, 43 female). 50% no matter which sex, stated no sexual dysfunction. 50% considered their sexual activity as satisfying with gender differences. 18 of 87 patients expressed the need for medical consultation concerning their sexual dysfunction: 12 men, 6 women. The sexual dysfunctions relevant were loss of lust/ interest in sex, arousal or erection, problems reaching orgasm.
