Abstract

This special issue of Applied Animal Behaviour Science contains topics on the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE) congress. The 8 topics include (1) human-animal interactions in livestock production; (2) applied and basic research in farm animal welfare; (3) transferring the results of behavioural research to improve animal welfare on the farm, ranch and slaughter plant; (4) social cognition of the domestic dog; (5) the relevance of ethological approaches in laboratory animal science; (6) medical paradigms for the study of problem behaviour; (7) incorporating animal welfare science with traditional animal science curricula and (8) guidelines for the ethical use of animals in applied ethology studies.
