Abstract

The subject of the study was the Siphonaptera flea species blood-sucking arthropods, which hosts are mouse-rodents inhabiting the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain in the Volgograd region in the zone of Nizhneye Povolzhye. During the study period there were caught 683 rodents. There were registered 7 species of mouse-rodents and 8 types of Siphonaptera fleas, living as ectoparasites on those rodents. From the viewpoint of species the Ceratopyllus turbidus flea was registered as living on 4 kinds of mouse-rodents, such as the house mice Mus musculus L., field mouse Apodemus agrarius (Pallas), field vole mice Microtus arvalis (Pallas), Eversmann's hamsters (Allocricetulus eversmanni). The flea Leptopsylla bidentata was found only on common shrews. The Ctenocephalides canis fleu was observed only on the Eversmann hamster. All the other flea types were found living on various species of rodents, forming dominant or subdominant type groups.
