• No established causative link between intestinal malrotation and colorectal cancer. • Chronic inflammation known to increase risk of colorectal cancer. • Intestinal malrotation in adults often presents as intermittent bowel obstruction. • Intermittent bowel obstruction has been linked to chronic inflammation. • We hypothesise that intestinal malrotation is a risk factor for colorectal cancer.
