Abstract
In matters of high technology defence equipment, it is often difficult to make judgments about which countries have the best product in the world at any given time because there are so many variables - and so many performance details are classified. However, very few analysts could dispute the claim that the RAAF is now operating one of the best Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft available today. It is remarkable to think that this is the case when in 2007 the project - AIR 5077 - was in such deep technical difficulties that questions were being asked about whether the contracted solution would work at all.
