Abstract

Inrush current is magnetizing current which occurs during switching of unloaded transformer on to electric grid. Amplitude of this current can reach high amounts which are 3 to 40 times higher than nominal rated current of transformers and amount of these current grows with transformer power. Short introduction in problematic of inrush current phenomena with mathematical background is given. This current can cause many problems which will be explained in detail. Solutions for inrush current reduction will be elaborated in paper. Influence of some higher harmonics to protective relay system of transformer will be mentioned. Also, new possibilities for inrush current detection and analysis will be proposed.
