Abstract
An assessment of existing approaches to coastal zone management leads to a call for a broader approach based upon 'Coastal Resource Management'. For long-term success, resource management must be accompanied by an understanding and awareness, at all levels of office, of the complexities and diversity of the coastal system supported by the application of state of the art simulation tools.
