Research Associations I — The Electrical Research Association

A research association cannot be dissociated either from the movement as a whole or from the industry it serves. The idea of co-operative industrial research, sponsored by the Government, took shape in the 1914–1918 war and its effective application began in 1920. Two principles were then stated, firstly, that the work of research associations would primarily interest concerns unable to afford private research and, secondly, that government help was temporary.
