Abstract

This paper reviews the research carried out in the area of hypervelocity projectile launchers and the evolution of the propulsion systems. Theoretical and experimental studies, which have been demonstrated in various papers to investigate the performance and accuracy of variety of propellant based, electrically operated along with the electromagnetic based guns is also discussed. This research entirely focuses on how the guns have overcome the limitations and reinvented the idea to achieve the highest possible muzzle velocity. The advantages and limitations of various hypervelocity guns are discussed, along with the advantages of EM gun over the other conventional technologies used for the military applications.
