Abstract
Telling the same story through translation in different languages presents choices similar to those faced in framing stories from different angles in journalism. However, the close-knit relationship between framing and news translation studies remains under-represented in translation and communication studies. Taking financial news items from the Reference News and the Financial Times Chinese, two leading newspapers that publish translated news in Chinese, as samples for analysis, this paper argues that the two disciplines can be integrated in the study of news translation on the grounds that translated news manifests the frames in terms of responsibility, conflict, interest and so on in the same manner as framing news stories in the media. Thus, it is argued that looking into the framing of some issues under different contexts can reveal the causes behind transfer or transformation of translation-mediated stories.
