Abstract

The species of Cantao Amyot and Serville are revised and a key provided for identification. The genus occurs in Southeast Asia, Australia and Africa and four valid species arc recognized. Cantao rudis Vollenhoven, C. inscitus Walker and C. conscitus Walker are all junior synonyms of C. ocellatus (Thunberg). C. intermedius Distant is a junior synonym of C. variabilis (Montrouzier). C. pulcher Shouteden is a junior synonym of C. parentum (White). A lectotype is designated for C. ocellatus and C. variabilis.
