Abstract

The article deals with unamendable constitutional provisions, their effectiveness and constitutional review of constitutional amendments developed in an effort to shield these lasting principles from revision. Offering insights into the jurisprudence of constitutional tribunals of Germany, Italy and India, the author concludes with an assessment of the viability of the substantive constitutional review of citizen-initiated referenda in the Republic of Croatia.
