Abstract

This chapter discusses the principles of sustainable water resources management, the functions of water resources systems, and the emerging challenges and opportunities for integrated water resources management in Asia and the Pacific. A case study is then presented of water quality management and river tourism in Myanmar. The problem with water quality and sewerage in the country is discussed in relation to development pressures, and some policy proposals for water quality management and river tourism are presented.
