Abstract
This article deals with two principles – the principle of legality and the principle of opportunity which can be seen as contradictory at first sight because only the first mentioned is considered to be a traditional pillar of criminal procedures in continental European countries. The main focus of this article is to emphasize the role of the principle of opportunity in the Czech criminal procedure and to summarize basic institutes which are an expression of this principle.
