Management of the building process

Health Authorities register and inspect nursing homes which are for people who need regular nursing care. Nursing homes must have a qualified nurse on duty at all times. Homes for people who can no longer manage to live in the community but do not need regular nursing care are called rest or retirement or residential homes and must be registered with and inspected by the Local Authority Social Services Department. The authorities appoint Registration Officers who are responsible for the registration and inspection of homes subject to committee approval. The Registration Officer may be supported by technical staff.
