Abstract
the foraminifera assemblages from Miocene calcareous deposits(Razak Formation) in south-west of iran (west Kuh-e-Azganeh of Khorramabad )were studied with respect to proposed stratigraphical range of the identified benthic and pelagic foraminifera in Azganeh section.on base of micropaleontological research 32 genera and 15 species of benthic foraminifera and 3 genera and 2 species of pelagic foraminifera with a number of non-foraminifera have been identified and based on the associated index foraminifera two biozones have been selected : Archaias kirkukensisGlobigerina-Globorotalia Assemblage Zone and Pseudotaberina malabarica-Borelis melo curdicaElphidium Assemblage Zone that indicating a Aquitanian – Burdigalian age for the Razak Formation in the studied area. Diverse assemblages of benthic foraminifera and also the low planktonic/benthic (P/B) ratio show that strongly the sedimentary environment in the study area was oxygenated and shallow.
