Environment and social management framework

The development objective of the Power Transmission and Distribution Projects in Andhra Pradesh for India is to increase the system capacity to deliver electricity to customers, and to improve the operational efficiency and system reliability in distribution of electricity in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (i) careful route selection to avoid existing settlements and sensitive locations; (ii) avoid sitting new towers on farmland wherever possible; (iii) if any cultural property is found during construction, the work will be stopped immediately and contractor will intimate utilities about availability of cultural property; (iv) use of insulated wires in highly congested residential areas; (v) minimize blockage of access roads; (vi) provision of welfare measures such as canteens, first aid facilities, housing accommodation for workers near the work place etc. (vii) sanitation and medical facilities; and (viii) display danger signs at appropriate locations.
