Abstract

Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been the most promising agents to date. The on-demand use of these agents is more convenient, but its efficacy is less well established. Objective (s); is to evaluate the efficacy of two different doses of dapoxetine and a single dose of paroxetine on demand in the management of premature ejaculation. This study is an interventional study (clinical trial), included 64 patient, matching the inclusion criteria of PE according to ISSM (2008) which include: (i) Time from penetration less than 2 min. (ii) Presence of marked distress or negative personal consequence, and (iii) Inability to delay ejaculation. A single blind technique will be done with patients matching the inclusion criteria were paroxetine 20 mg will be administered four hours before intercourse for 3 months (at least 36 successive intercourses during this period), then followed by administration of dapoxetine 30mg with the same manner for the same period and then administration of dapoxetine 60mg with the same manner and also for the same period. Patients were given a stopwatch to calculate the time taken for ejaculation and compared to time before treatment. The patients were given a wash out period of two weeks were no medication is given, to make sure these results are not due to the cumulative effect of the drugs. Exclusion criteria included single patients, history of alcohol or any substance abuse or dependence, Presence of erectile dysfunction and patients with clinical evidence of neurological disorders.
