External Relations: Community Foreign Policy

This is the first of four chapters that look at each of the three types of European foreign policy identified in Chapter 2. An analysis of Community foreign policy here is followed in succeeding chapters by Union policy in the form of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).This is prefaced by a discussion of its predecessor, European Political Cooperation (EPC). Finally, what has been called the ‘Europeanization’ of EU member states’ foreign policy is tested by reference to a case study chapter on British foreign policy.
