Abstract

Physicists from Japan and the UK have demonstrated a new approach to laser fusion that could significantly increase the energy output from a fusion reactor. If scaled up, the new technique could be used to power reactors that could produce hundreds of times as much energy as they consume (R Kodama et al. 2001 Nature 412 798).
