Abstract

The biggest challenge to leading it is not how you do when things are going well. It is how you deal with issues when they’re not. And the great leaders among us have the capacity to rise up to the occasion, to truly demonstrate what can be considered adequate leadership competencies when faced with two critical issues: One: crises. Two: the need to transform an organization. It is my strong belief that it is more important to know who you are than where you are going. Because where you are going may change constantly, but who you are remains defined. And as such, I propose to you that the conversation on leadership begins squarely on what competencies you have that enable you to lead, to motivate those whom you lead to action. Let me share with you specifically two important incidents that I consider are great beginnings for conversations on leadership.
