Abstract

The authors describe work on a novel rural radio telephony system which, by using an exchangeless network structure, is uniquely suited to providing a basic telephone service to widely-separated sites, for example villages in developing countries where telephone provision is rare. They lay out the traffic analysis of a distributed telephone system which is designed to meet these requirements at a realistic level of equipment cost.
